The price of being in our heads too much as Men

As men, we naturally live in our heads, it’s where we are most comfortable, but at what cost:

Blocks our intuition

  • Make decisions from rational mind which we need, but then we ignore the gut and instinctual feeling inside of us that’s telling us otherwise

  • Miss warning signs and red flags around us

  • Disrupts access to our inherent creativity

We intellectualise emotions

  • Solve emotional issues, with our mind

  • Keep feeling the same emotions e.g. angry, sad, disatisfied, overwhelmed

  • Our actions continue to be controlled by our emotions e.g. Keep reacting to others emotionally

Never really present with others

  • How many times your partner or a loved has said you’re not present?

  • People will avoid or not want to engage with someone who isn't present with them

  • We break deeper connections with others

Why we are in our heads?

It’s because we don’t feel safe in our body. Living in our heads gives us the illusion we are in control, yet it’s where we are most trapped and at war with ourselves. We never learned what our bodies are telling us and that our body actually stores our suppressed emotions and stressors that eat away at us and deeply affect our negative thinking.

Whenever I work with men who are stuck in their heads, feeling anxious, overwhelmed, overthinking, in negative spirals and confused, I help them connect with their bodies, process all the heavy emotions and ick they feel inside (without digging into the past), and as soon as it’s all gone they have the answer they’ve been torturing themselves over.

If you’re a man who finds yourself stuck in your head and going round in circles, and feel trapped in your own mind…

You can start by connecting with your body through exercise, walks in nature, breathwork, yoga, meditation, stretching, massage, getting intimate with your partner etc

Or, by simply spending 10-15 mins a day closing your eyes and feeling the sensations in your body, this will take you out of your head and thoughts, giving you space to think clearly.

I wonder what difference it will make in your day to day life, when you start to feel far greater inner peace and clearer thoughts?

Just by learning the simple practice of getting out of your head, and into your body.
